Question 1

How does the image upscaler work?

Accepted Answer

NexTool's Image Upscaler uses the HTML5 Canvas API with high-quality interpolation to enlarge your images. It employs step-based upscaling (processing in 2x increments) for smoother results. Everything runs in your browser — no files are uploaded to any server.

Question 2

What image formats can I upscale?

Accepted Answer

You can upscale JPEG, PNG, and WebP images. After upscaling, you can choose to download the result as either PNG (lossless, best quality) or JPG (smaller file size with adjustable quality from 1-100%).

Question 3

What upscale factors are available?

Accepted Answer

NexTool supports 2x, 3x, and 4x preset upscale factors, plus a custom mode where you can enter exact pixel dimensions. Aspect ratio can be locked or unlocked for free-form resizing.

Question 4

Is there a file size or dimension limit?

Accepted Answer

Input images can be up to 50 MB. Output dimensions are capped at 16,000 pixels per side for browser compatibility. Very large upscale operations may take a moment depending on your device's capabilities.

Question 5

Will upscaling reduce image quality?

Accepted Answer

Browser-based upscaling uses interpolation which smooths pixels rather than adding new detail. For photographic images, 2x upscaling produces excellent results. For larger factors, consider using AI-based upscaling services. NexTool provides a before/after comparison so you can evaluate the result before downloading.
