Question 1

What is a Table of Contents generator?

Accepted Answer

A Table of Contents (TOC) generator automatically extracts headings from your HTML or Markdown content and creates a structured, nested list with anchor links. This saves time when creating documentation, blog posts, or long-form articles.

Question 2

What formats does this TOC generator support?

Accepted Answer

NexTool's TOC Generator supports both HTML and Markdown input. It can output your table of contents as an HTML list, Markdown list, or a numbered outline. You can choose between bullet points, simple numbers, or hierarchical numbering (1.1, 1.1.1).

Question 3

Can I customize which heading levels are included?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can set the minimum and maximum heading levels. For example, include only H2-H3 for a top-level overview, or H2-H6 for a detailed table of contents. The tool updates in real time as you change the settings.

Question 4

Does it generate anchor links?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the generator automatically creates URL-friendly anchor IDs from your heading text (e.g., 'Getting Started' becomes #getting-started). These anchor links let readers click to jump directly to each section.
